CCC Student Services Center - Oregon City, Oregon.

DESCRIPTION

Recognizing that the experience for students arriving on campus for the first time can be an unfamiliar and often intimidating environment, the new Student Services Center changes the way CCC serves students and greets visitors to the Oregon City Campus.

Serving as the "front door" to Clackamas Community College, the new Student Services Center will offer admissions, advising, counseling, education partnerships, financial aid, registration, testing and placement services, and a welcome desk. This will become a space where students can have most of their questions answered in one setting rather than moving to different offices or between buildings.

The college is also remodeling the existing community center to provide a facelift for: admissions, Associated Student Government (ASG), career center, disability resource center, multicultural center and the veterans center. The improved community center will create better study spaces for students as well as easy access to the Cougar Café. A new plaza between the transit mall and new building will also be part of this project.

PCC Child Development Center - Portland, Oregon.

DESCRIPTION

PCC Sylvania Campus has a new, modern, and larger child development center on the south side of the campus. Parents who want to study at Portland Community College now have some exciting options for childcare.

The state-of-the-art 14,000-square-foot facility will serve between 60-75 children and will cost roughly $7 million. Sylvania is the epicenter for the Child Development Center for the Early Education and Family Studies program, and involves more of a teaching environment with students and faculty working on best practices.

This center is licensed by the State of Oregon Child Care Division and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Classrooms are staffed with qualified and trained teachers and support personnel to maintain a low teacher to student ratio. Students from the Early Education Program also complete their practicum work in the classrooms.

This is a unique early education facility that provides developmentally and culturally appropriate care for infants through preschool age children. The center is planned and staffed to provide a training facility for early childhood education students. The students have the opportunity to apply early childhood best practices in the classroom with children and families, under the supervision of their mentor teachers.

17th & Front - Portland, Oregon.

DESCRIPTION

17th & Front is a large mixed-use development on an incredibly challenging site. The narrow, wedge shaped property is located between railroad tracks to the Southwest and NW Front Avenue to the Northeast, it is at the edge of the Northwest District with a direct path into the Northwest Industrial area, and has views of the river, Fremont Bridge, and Mount Hood. The project was broken into three buildings sitting atop a large podium in order to maximize daylight and minimize the imposing area of the site. The podium provides a collection of micro-industrial and retail/commercial space to create and sustain a critical density needed for vibrancy, before the rest of the neighborhood fills in with expected development.

The design of the project takes cues from the old industrial buildings that currently occupy the area, particularly from the diagonally-braced, wood-framed warehouses clad in metal panels. Showing off a slightly different face from each approach, it reflects the diversity of the area and its unique location in between several very different neighborhoods.

Park Avenue West Tower - Portland, Oregon.

DESCRIPTION

Located in the heart of downtown Portland, Park Avenue West sits amongst the city’s most highly-revered historical and cultural attractions. Iconic early-Portland architecture mingles with the energy of a modern, urban ethos. It’s a core of undiscovered harmony, where Broadway’s hub of art and culture meets urban planning and neighborhood charm to offer escape, excitement and endless opportunity.

Park Avenue West Tower was initially scheduled to be completed in 2010 and was developed by TMT Development. The tower was to have a total of 33 floors and offer retail space, office space, and 85 housing units. The housing component was dropped from the plans. It was also to have a six floor underground garage with 325 parking spaces. The building gained the top four floors when developers agreed to add 1,650 square feet of bike facilities (including public bicycle commuter showers, bike parking, and locker space) under the connected Director Park's subsurface parking, gaining the tower a 40-to-1 bonus.

The North Transfer station is located in the Wallingford neighborhood. The facility is designed to handle waste more efficiently, safely and provides more opportunities to recycle. Designed with the community in mind the North Transfer Station has updated safety features such as separating small residential drops from the bigger customers. The North Transfer Station is a state of the art facility designed to improve customer safety, increase capacity and efficiency, and reduce odor and noise. SPU worked with the community through a collaborative design process to create a facility that includes community amenities and sustainable features, such as public open spaces, basketball court, facility sound barrier, green storm water infrastructure, solar panels, and a steel truss roof design that proved to be critical to achieving the sunlight requirement for a LEED gold status.
