1. STRUCTURAL STEEL ERECTION ESTIMATOR

REFA is currently recruiting for a motivated individual to join our Estimating & Project Management team. This is a great opportunity to join a local, well established construction company in the Portland Metro area.

QUALIFICATIONS & DUTIES INCLUDE

Preferred, But Not Required Education & Experience:

  • AAS degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Building Construction Technology or other industry-related college degree. Combinations of experience & education will also be considered.

  • 1-3 years of experience in commercial construction (ideally structural steel) in the role of an Estimator and/or Project Manager is preferred.

  • Experience w/ 3D modelling & design software such as Tekla BIMsight, is preferred, but not required.

  • Preparation of construction estimates, project RFP & specification review and writing of steel

    erection bid proposals through the use of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, MS Project), Fabsuite, Tekla BIMsight, Bluebeam & other AEC industry standard software platforms.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interpret construction drawings, logistics plans, CPM schedules & construction budget information.

  • Participation in project planning & representation of the company in meetings with clients.

  • Close Coordination with Fought fabrication estimators and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Occasional travel to project sites to investigate construction problems & schedule issues.

  • Maintaining contact with clients & tracking potential project leads for future work.

2. Field Project Coordinator

Job description

We are currently seeking a highly-experienced Construction Field Coordinator, with a minimum of 8 years field erection/construction experience. The ideal candidate has professional communication skills (written and verbal), can communicate effectively and appropriately with a variety of people and personalities, has strong organization skills, can proficiently read construction plans, thrives in a fast-paced environment, is highly motivated and extremely reliable. This person is also detail orientated and a problem solver. Completion of OSHA 30-hour safety course is a must. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing project field needs within the decided timeline, and scope. They will also effectively monitor and present project updates to project team members and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a good working relationship with owner, subcontractors and company support groups such as estimating, accounting, payroll, etc.

  • Assist in acquiring necessary plans/specifications and performing takeoffs for change order work.

  • Visit company project sites on a regular basis.

  • Monitor site conditions and project material needs.

  • Take reports on all site conditions and flag areas of concern.

  • Update the Project Management team as to field conditions.

  • Evaluate schedule progress and update project schedule on a regular basis with realistic timetable for future work items.

  • Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead time so as not to disrupt or delay production.

  • Analyze shop drawings, as-builts and other contract required documents to ensure completeness and accuracy and submit to the owner with necessary documentation.

  • Maintain all safety requirements on project sites.

  • Independently track all field staff including Superintendents and Labor.

  • Check all project safety logs.

  • Take material requests from Superintendents and Project Managers.

  • Work with purchasing staff to place orders and coordinate supply/material deliveries.

Qualifications

  • Strong business acumen in project safety requirements and management.

  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to take an unbiased role in evaluating all field staff and project conditions.

  • Strong knowledge in field safety and OSHA requirements.

  • Highly organized and able to set and follow site guidelines.

3. ESTIMATOR TRAINEE - REFA, INC.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an entry level position for an individual willing to learn and grow from trainee into the role of Senior Estimator and/or Project Manager. The right candidate will be trained to estimate, manage projects, and function as a valuable part of REFA.

  • Understanding and interpreting construction drawings.

  • Reading and understanding project specifications and bid documents.

  • Learning to estimate/takeoff steel and assembling bid proposals.

  • Attending post bid and on site meetings with clients.

  • Developing an erection plan.

  • Assisting with creating/writing change orders and learning to identify changes and project impacts.

  • Managing project budgets and schedules.

  • Daily coordination with field superintendents, suppliers, and other trades to ensure projects remain on track and on budget.

  • Identifying hazards, site obstacles, and difficulties at the location of projects.

  • Being familiar with AISC standards, equipment, and other tools of the trade.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years of education beyond High School in Engineering, Structural or Architectural Drafting, or construction related field.

  • Relevant work experience (preferably in the steel industry) will be considered in lieu of the above education requirements.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Familiar with software such as Bluebeam, Procore, Viewpoint & construction modeling software.

  • Capable of interpreting construction drawings and understanding basic engineering terminology.

  • Strong attention to details, ability to multi-task, highly organized, computer and tech savvy.

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team orientated office environment.

  • Professionalism, good work ethic, and excellent client customer service are critical in this role.
